This online chemistry calculator may be used to calculate the theoretical energy/mole of a polyatomic linear gas. Energy is quantized in each degrees of freedom. This has been theoretically calculated. For each transnational degrees of freedom an energy of a quantity about KT/2 is associated. This is the same for each of the rotational degrees of freedom. However each vibrational degrees of freedom is associated with KT amount of energy instead of KT/2. Since the considered system is a linear molecule it will have only 2 rotational degrees of freedom. Similarly vibrational degrees of freedom is affected by this linearity and as a whole the the equation for the energy of the linear poly atomic gas is derived accordingly.
