begin mathsize 36px style R e equals fraction numerator r. d. v over denominator mu end fraction end style

Re = Reynolds Number ; r = The diameter or length (basically length of the shape of the object);

d = The density of the fluid; v = The velocity of the object; μ = Viscosity of the fluid;

Reynolds Number is used to determine flow patterns of a fluid flow, in fluid mechanics. This is a dimensionless quantity. By, definition it is the ratio of the inertial forces to the viscous forces. The calculated value of Reynolds Number can be used to determine whether the fluid flow is turbulent (not smooth, chaotic fluid motion) or laminar (smooth , constant fluid motion). Higher value of Reynolds Number leads to turbulent flow whereas lower value leads to laminar flow.
